Tracking templates implementation check

Tracking templates implementation check

This check should only be performed after the script data collection check!

A. Using a report in Adloop

A couple of days after adding the tracking templates, you can check the data for your tracked channels in Adloop directly.

To do so, create a report using the following parameters :

  • Dimensions : Channel, Campaign

  • Metrics : Ad Clicks, Landed Clicks, Useful Clicks, Attributed Conversions

  • Date : from the first full day when the tracking templates where installed

  • Filters : The channels where the tracking templates are in place

Your report will look like this :

Properly tracked Google Search channel

You need to check :

  • That the campaigns redirecting to your website have indeed Landed Clicks

    • If some campaigns don’t have any clicks while they should have, check if the tracking template is correctly implemented and that the tracking template is the good one (a Google Seach tracking template on a Perf Max campaign will not work properly)

  • That you don’t have a big amount of Landed Clicks attached to an empty “Campaign” value for a given Channel.

    • This might be indicating of a wrong tracking template being set-up (Google Search tracking template installed on Bing Search campaign).

B. How to troubleshoot issues

  1. Check that the good tracking templates is in place for the good channel

  2. Check that there isn’t a tracking template in place on a lower level (ex: on adgroup level) as the tracking template on the lower level (ex: adgroup) overrides the one on the higher level (ex: account or campaign)

  3. Test the URL of your ad and check that the loopcd parameter is present in the URL and that some of the macros are correctly replaced. It is normal that not all the macros are filled, because when testing, since it’s not a real click some parameters may be missing, in the exemple below on Google Search when testing we only have the device (c) and the Ad ID (37[…]133)

  1. Check on your landing page that the Adloop code is correctly filled in:

    1. Channel Code (3 letters, the same ones as in the tracking template body)

    2. Macros are replaced by number or text

    3. All the parameters are filled

Here we have a Google Perf Max (COp) code
  1. In Adloop, check the “Adloop codes” :

    1. Coming from the Advertising source, by using a source metric (ex: Meta clicks)

    2. Coming from the Attribution source, by using an attributed metric (ex: Adloop Attribution Landed Clicks)

    3. The two must be identical in order for the matching to work, so a discrepancy could explain the non matching. Our support team can help you from there.
